On Friday 1st July, Ben Cohen and Magda Witt organised the launch of the CIBSE YEN North West centre in Manchester, kindly sponsored by Baxi Commercial Division and Compheat.
The event held at the Chill Factore in Manchester, attracted over 30 young engineers from the region, who celebrated the launch with skiing and snowboarding on the snowy slopes, followed by food and drinks in the warmth of the Apres bar! It was deemed a huge success with many enthusiastic young engineers from a variety of backgrounds and disciplines enjoying themselves all evening.
Ben, a Graduate Mechanical Services Engineer at Arup, explained, "We will be holding different events each year, a mixture of CPDs, site visits, networking events
with other young professionals in the building services industry and social events. Our aim is to inspire and educate young engineers and also continue to raise the profile of CIBSE in the region." Magda, who is presently working in Azerbaijan for six months as an Intermediate Mechanical Engineer with Foreman Roberts, added, "It is so important for the young and more experienced engineers to work together. It is our generation that will set the example by creating a sustainable approach to engineering based on both the newly available technologies and the valuable experience of 'older' engineers."
Rebecca Johnson, Head of Marketing and Communications at Baxi Commercial Division, commented, "We have always been committed to encouraging the development of young people through a variety of scholarships, work experience, training, awards and continuous professional development modules and we are delighted to be able to assist these enthusiastic young engineers as they lead the way in creating new opportunities for collaboration and discussion."
The Young Engineers' Network North West centre aims to expand and is looking to recruit new members to the committee to help organise future activities, social nights
and CPD's.
