And ErP COMPLIANT

The Energy Related Products Directive (ErP) has applied to all domestic and commercial heating and hot water products through Europe since September 2015. It was introduced to help countries in the EU reduce the energy they use by 20%, reduce emissions by 20% and increase the share of energy generation by renewables by 20%m before the year 2020.

The ErP Directive is made up of two parts, Ecodesign and Energy Labelling;

  • Ecodesign will make sure that manufacturers are meeting minimum energy performance and environmental standards.
  • Energy Labelling requires all energy-related products to clearly display their efficiency grade, ranging from A+ to F.

From 26th September 2018 the ErP Directive is changing to include mandatory limits on NOx emissions for gas, LPG and oil fired water heaters. This will mean that any water heater sold after this date mush have an efficiency/NOx output rating of C or above.

  • For gas/LPG fired products the maximum NOx emissions will be 56mg/kWh
  • For oil-fired products the maximum NOx emissions will be 120mg/kWh.

The changes mean that manufacturers have a clear obligation to inform buyers about the efficiency of their products, which helps contractors and specifiers to better explain product and system efficiencies to end users and provide quotes based on efficiency. The new regulations are also pushing manufacturers to deliver more efficient water heating solutions, to help reduce environmental impact by ensuring only the most efficient products are available for purchase.
